YEAR 5

Vikings  - Learning about viking invasions, Kings of this period and Viking life. We will make Viking helmets in DT.

World War 2 - We will learn how this period of time affected children in England and what they experienced. In art we will make a model Anderson shelter as well as clay planes. We will also study a war artist.

 

Rivers and Conservation - We will study the features of a river and compare the river Derwent with the Seine in France. We will also consider a variety of conservation issues both in the UK and further afield, this will include an extended topic on the Peregrine falcons at Belper Mill and Derby Cathedral. We will also visit West Midlands Safari park, looking at the role of zoos in conservation and looking at the work of zoo keepers and conservationists. In art and DT we will sew a river scene and use a variety of mediums to create drawings.

 

Ancient Greece - We will study what Ancient Greece was like for the people who lived there and we will do a mini project on the Olympics. In art we will create our own Greek pot in clay and cook some typical Greek food.
