Our Charity Work
We support many charities both local, national and international. It is important for both staff and children to follow our mission and tradition of the founders of the school the Franciscan Sisters Minoress ( FSM) in helping those less fortunate than ourselves. Our school wears the brown of St Francis reflecting our care for the poor and uphold the ethos of St Elizabeth of Hungary by helping the sick and hungry.
Last year we raised £300 for CAFOD, £80 for the local poppy appeal, donated 83 christmas shoe boxes and £250 for the Padley centre in Derby ( homeless support centre) and donated tins for the local food bank ( Belper Hope). Our main overseas support is for St Teresa's in Quazululand Africa. For the past 5 years we have provided food for their soup kitchen and furniture for the dining area. We were lucky when last year two of the Sisters visited our school and talked to the children about the school and children in Africa.
MINORIES
The minories are a group open to any child attending St Elizabeth's School. They meet weekly to learn about the life of St Francis and try to lead a lifestyle that follows his ways of kindness to all. Sr Bernadette provides our pastoral support to both staff and children and the Minories group follow a programme devised by Sr Marianne of the FSM which is delivered by Mrs Gannon and Mrs Worth.
